Tips and tricks for an eco-friendly home

Our planet is not a single-use item; one day we, grown-ups, will leave it here for our children. Or our friends’ children. We think it would be nice to leave it here in a usable state. And of course, we’ve heard the counterargument that an individual doesn’t have the power to make the environment better. Come on, we all know that it isn’t true. Have you heard this joke? „One plastic straw won’t make a difference. Said 7 billion people every other day. “ Get it?

Tips and tricks for an eco-friendly home | Bamboolik

Bamboolik’s core product are still cloth nappies – and if you are using or have used cloth for your baby, we congratulate you! Your ecological footprint has become significantly smaller. (By the way: Here’s how many nappies has Bamboolik saved during its existence. It’s quite a number!) However, as Bamboolik’s children grow (out of nappies), we look for other things to do to improve our ecological karma. Where? Here, there and everywhere :)

You can start with clothing (fast vs slow fashion), then move on to all disposable products (have you ever thought about how many you use on a daily basis?), to detergents, cosmetics etc. We think it’s absolutely OK to take small steps towards an eco-friendly home. It’s not that you either do everything or nothing; similarly with our credo „every nappy counts“ we also think that „every little change counts“! So, why not start with switching wet wipes for their cloth alternative? (They’re much gentler towards sensitive baby skin, anyway.)

It’s not just about eco-friendliness, though. By making steps towards an eco-friendly home, you save not only the environment but also your money. Have you ever counted how much money you spend on disposable wipes (wet or dry, doesn’t matter)? If you have, you’ll see quite clearly that cloth wipes are definitely budget-friendly. And yes, we know that at first glance it can look like adding another home-related chore to an already long list. But trust us: once you create a system in it (use, wash, dry, use, repeat), you stop thinking about it as more work. Really! It’s usually just about our inner setting, which we need to switch from „I don’t have the time/energy/will to do that“ to „I just do it automatically“.

So, what can be your first steps toward an eco-friendly home?

Bamboo | Cloth Wipes | Bamboolik
  • Your own reusable grocery bag.

  • Upgrade of the previous step: Bring your own mesh bags or produce bags.
  • A practical zero waste bag for bits and pieces - your ID cards, cosmetics ….. anything.

  • Do you go swimming with your kids? We swear by our wet bags for swimgear and wet towels. Originally designed for soiled nappies but they’re also great for gym clothes, for example.

That’s for us as individuals. However, your ecological footprint can be improved also at your workplace, and by that we don’t mean obligatory waste sorting and not printing every e-mail. For instance, in Bamboolik, we pack our goods in used boxes (we all bring to work every box we can find at home). We’re part of a box-recycling system in the Czech Republic called REDUCA – anyone can bring used cardboard boxes to Bamboolik and we happily send them back to rotation. If we have to use plastic bags (some of our business partners, such as Amazon, insist on these), we use biodegradable plastic (made in Brno, by the way, the town we have premises in, can you get more local than that?). We actively search for Zero Waste shops and shop in them.

Who’s with us? Bamboolik and its Eco-friendly Home. Don’t just talk about it, live it.
