Prefold diapers are the most universal absorbent layer for cloth diapers — and also the least costly. A cloth diaper stash made of mostly prefolds is the cheapest diaper solution for your baby. While still being very effective and easy to use.

How to Use a Prefold

It’s intuitive and simple. Prefold diaper is a plain rectangle that you insert into diaper cover of your choice.

Newborn Prefold Fold

Fold your prefold around your baby’s hips in the so-called newborn fold, secure it with a Snappi fastener and put your chosen diaper cover over. A very practical diaper solution for newborns and smaller babies who still have liquid newborn stool. The newborn fold helps hold everything inside the diaper.

Into Diaper Covers

Prefold diapers can be folded into thirds or quarters — thus adjusting to the current size of your diaper covers. This is a very practical diaper solution for older babies whose stool is already solid (so leaks are not likely). A super fast diaper change!

Additional Absorbing Layer for Pocket Diapers and Fitted Diapers

Shape-wise, prefold diapers don’t copy any diaper cover and they don’t need to be snapped in a certain place. That’s why they can be used as a universal absorbent insert in any cloth diaper of choice — be it a Pocket Diaper or a Fitted Diaper. Just bear in mind that a diaper shouldn’t be too bulky — no diaper should ever limit a baby’s free movement. The only exception to this rule is the night, when the highest absorbing capacity is your priority. Therefore, prefolds are a popular solution as extra inserts for night fitted diapers.

A perfect choice for those looking for 100% natural fabrics — but be prepared that an absorbent natural fabric takes a lot of time to dry (we’re talking air-drying as well as tumble-drying).

A microfiber prefold dries much faster and it’s softer, easy to put on. It’s pretty inexpensive compared to organic cotton.

How to Wash a Prefold:

We recommend washing your prefolds two or three times before actually using them, to get them to their maximum absorbing capacity. Machine-wash your prefolds at 60°C and don’t use fabric softeners. Prefolds are tumble-dryer friendly.
